Our first full day
Susan and I had the back bedroom, which was separated by only a curtain from the front bedroom where Tom stayed. In the morning, I couldn’t tell if Tom was up or if it was just the boat swaying in the canal. Susan and I started to whistle, then talk quietly to invite Tom to say something, but we didn’t want to wake him if he was still asleep due to jet lag. Our Narrow Boat Adventure Begins
In 18th century, canals were built in England where were they became a major method of transportation. This infrastructure remains solid to this day, but is now used primarily for recreational boating for tourists and locals. We are going to count ourselves as new members of these recreational boaters. We met Tom at the lobby for a quick English breakfast. The breakfast included some unusual choices such as blood sausage and baked beans Although I love to try local fare, that desire lost out to the standard eggs, hash browns, and regular sausage. Camping on the beach!
We made it to Prince Edward Island to begin our bike trip of the Island, where we plan to ride the Confederation Trail, the 273 km trail that was once their railroad back when they had a railroad on the island, but is now a trail that runs the length of the Island. One of the first things we did was stop at the visitor’s center right as you enter the island to ask about wild camping. It is legal to park/camp in any public parking lot as long as it isn’t posted “No overnight parking.” And she said that many people do wild camp the island. We drove to…
