Camping on the beach!
We made it to Prince Edward Island to begin our bike trip of the Island, where we plan to ride the Confederation Trail, the 273 km trail that was once their railroad back when they had a railroad on the island, but is now a trail that runs the length of the Island.
One of the first things we did was stop at the visitor’s center right as you enter the island to ask about wild camping. It is legal to park/camp in any public parking lot as long as it isn’t posted “No overnight parking.” And she said that many people do wild camp the island.
We drove to the northeast end of the island, where we are going to start the bike ride. There is a lighthouse there on the beach. The beach has a large parking lot, without a single “No overnight parking” sign in sight!
We had the parking lot almost to ourselves that night, there was only one other van parked about 200 feet away on the other end. It was a very peaceful and relaxing night, with a great view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean (actually the Gulf of St Lawrence)
This is what traveling in a van is all about!
